AUDIO OUTPUTS

The audio output for your 24-hour format will appear at the DB-9 connector on the DECODER card in PORT C at the back of the Starguide receiver. Refer to the attached pin-out diagram.   Make sure you do NOT wire the mono output!  WOR-1 is on the left channel.  WOR-2 is on the right channel.  If you wire the mono output, you will need to change your station logo to "nobody give you more talk".

CONTACT CLOSURES

The contact closures for your format appear on the DB-37 connector on the RELAY CONTACTS card in PORT B. The relay contacts are "floating" and provide electrically isolated cues to your automation. Refer to the attached pin-out table.  The contact closures also appear on the DB-15 connector on the back of the audio card.

RECEIVER TUNING

Once you connect the Starguide receiver to your AMC-8 satellite antenna and apply AC power, you should see the following on the green LCD display:

STARGUIDE III

TRACKING

The receiver should be pre-tuned to the ABCNY Starguide carrier on AMC-8. If your Starguide III receiver was provided by someone other than ABC or if it not tuned to our carrier, follow the instructions below:

Press <Enter> on the Starguide keypad:

Press ► CARRIER MENU is displayed, press <Enter>

Press ► MANUAL ENTRY is displayed, press <Enter>

Enter the frequency: 0990000 kHz, press <Enter>

Enter the data rate: 13824000 BPS press <Enter>

Press ► until: VIT: 2/3 is displayed press <Enter>

The receiver should lock on the ABC New York Starguide carrier (SIGNAL and SYNC LED’s should illuminate steadily).

To set the Starguide receiver to your ABC program service:

Press <Enter> on the Starguide keypad:

Press ► until PORT MENU is displayed, press <Enter>

Press ► until PORT C is displayed, press <Enter>

Press <Enter> to select PROVIDER, press <Enter> again;

Press ► until ABCNY is displayed, press <Enter>

Press ► until SERVICE is displayed, press <Enter>

Press ► until WOR1/WOR2 is displayed, press <Enter>

Please note that it may take several minutes for the receiver to download the ABC Starguide Provider and Service tables. Once you have completed the above steps, you must contact the WOR Radio Network Engineering office at (212)-642-4462 [email: tomray@wor710.com] for authorization. You will not be able to receive audio until the unit has been authorized. DO NOT CALL ABC FOR AUTHORIZATION! The WOR Radio Network Engineering office is staffed Monday through Friday from 9:00am until 5:00pm ET. You will need to provide the entire Starguide receiver serial number, your call letters (both AM & FM), the station address, a contact name and phone number. The serial number is located on the back of the Starguide receiver.

At this time, you should also check your signal strength on the Starguide receiver:

Press ▲ until you see:

STARGUIDE III

TRACKING

Press <Enter> on the Starguide keypad:

Press ► until you get to STATUS MENU, press <Enter>

Press ► until you get to SIGNAL STRENGTH, press <Enter>

You should see the EB/No ("EB") and AGC ("AG") values displayed. The receiver’s signal strength threshold is an EB of 4.5dB. The SIGNAL LED will blink if the signal strength drops below 5dB. An EB reading above 9dB is good. Readings below 9dB may indicate a local reception problem. An AG reading between 130 and 200 is nominal. A lower AG number means a stronger signal, but both interference and the desired signal contribute to this reading.
