WOR RADIO NETWORK CLOCK EXPLANATIONS

COMMERCIAL BREAKS

Floating breaks for Network clocks occur approximately 17:00, 42:00, and 52:00 minutes past the hour*. There is a two-minute window on either side of the approximate break time. Hard breaks for Network clocks occur exactly at 29:50 and 58:50 past the hour. Hard breaks are fixed break positions and are designed to keep the timing within the hour accurate. Top of the hour feed: interval of time from the top of the hour (00:00:00) until six minutes past the hour (00:06:00) when the Network sends its closed circuit continuity feed. Network affiliates are required to cover this time interval independently. Most Network affiliates carry local news and weather coverage during this time. Program content on the WOR Radio Network for all shows always resumes at 06:40 each hour.

*For Joey Reynolds Affiliates: the floating breaks occur at approximately 17:00 and 44:00 minutes past the hour. There is no floating break at 52:00 minutes past the hour in the Joey Reynolds clock.

Commercial Break Lengths

Break lengths: all stopsets occurring at 17:00, 29:50, and 42:00 minutes past the hour are 4 minutes in length followed by a 10 second music bed and a 2 second pause for a total commercial break length of 4 minutes and 12 seconds*The stopset that occurs at 52:00 minutes past the hour is 3 minutes in length followed by a 10 second music bed and a 2 second pause for a total commercial break length of 3 minutes and 12 seconds.

The 10 second music bed and two second pause are designed to insure a clean rejoin to the program for all network affiliates. The ten second music bed can be utilized by Network affiliates as bumper music for local "voice only" liners.

*For Joey Reynolds affiliates:

All stopsets occurring at 17:00 and 42:00 minutes past the hour are the same as above.

However, the stopset that occurs at 29:50 past the hour is 3 minutes in length followed by a 10 second music bed and a 2 second pause for a total commercial break length of 3 minutes and 12 seconds.

Commercial Break Requirements

Network Inventory

All network affiliates are required to carry 4 minutes of commercial inventory per hour. The required Network inventory is divided equally into the breaks scheduled at 17:00 and 42:00 minutes past the hour. The required Network inventory will always run at the start of the commercial break. To insure that breaks time out accurately, the Network provides commercial inventory for the entire length of all breaks within an hour.

Local Inventory

There are eleven (11) available local commercials divided into four breaks within an hour. Network affiliates also have complete jurisdiction of local commercial content during the time interval at the top of each hour until six minutes past the hour. In the event that local inventory is not sold, Network affiliates have the option of carrying the commercial inventory provided by the Network during a stopset.

Important! All Network affiliates must comply with AFTRA rules and regulations regarding the streaming of commercial content on the Internet. The WOR Radio Network will not be liable for AFTRA related royalties of commercial content that an affiliate chooses to carry on its Internet stream while carrying our programs.

AUTOMATION, ROLLOVERS, AND LOCAL CUE TONES

Automation

The WOR Radio Network utilizes ABC Netcue II digital technology and audio card relays. Automaton cues are subaudible tones of 25hz & 35hz. Additional automation information is available at the WOR Radio Network’s official website www.worradionet.com.

Rollover Cues

Rollover cues are fired over the music bed that follows the end of a program segment. When fired, this cue will activate the local affiliate’s automation sequence, which will then fire the local affiliate’s pre recorded rollover liner. All rollover liners should be dry-voice and no longer than 5 seconds in length. Rollover cues are fired at the discretion of the studio operator and may be eliminated due to timing constraints.

Local Cues

Local cutaway cues are fired before each local break, including the local break that occurs at 58:50 past the hour. The local cutaway cue is followed by a 1-second pause to allow a clean break into the local commercial stopset. When fired, the local cutaway cue will activate the local affiliate’s automation sequence, which will then fire the local affiliate’s commercial stopset. The WOR Radio Network does not fire any local cues that force an affiliate’s automation system to rejoin the Network after a commercial stopset.

All questions regarding automation, rollovers, and local cutaway cues can be answered by calling the WOR Radio Network Operations Department at (212) 642-4502. Network affiliates can also get answers to specific questions by contacting Tom Ray, Corporate Director of Engineering for the WOR Radio Network at (212) 642-4462 or via email to: tomray@worradionet.com.
