OUR HISTORY
After a suggestion by Ken and Daria Dolan that their WOR show was ready for syndication, preparations began in December of 1991 to launch the WOR Radio Network.
In February of 1992, the newly created Network fed its first programming (The Dolans) to approximately 10 affiliates. As their list of stations grew, other opportunities presented themselves and additional programming was added. In September of 1992, ABC Networks stopped syndication of the Tom Snyder Show. This void presented an opportunity for the WOR Radio Network to hire and syndicate Dr. Joy Browne. Ultimately, the WOR Radio Network successfully convinced most of the Tom Snyder affiliate list to carry the Dr. Joy Browne program.
July of 1993 brought Gene Burns to the WOR Radio Network as an afternoon drive time host. Burns offered a Libertarian viewpoint that was unique in the Talk Radio industry. In October 1994, Gene Burns left the company and was replaced by Jay Severin, a Republican political consultant. The show replaced Burns on the WOR Radio Network as well. From March 1997 to April 2002, legendary comedian and television personality, Joan Rivers, joined the ranks of talk show host when she joined the ever-growing WOR Radio Network lineup.
In June of 1996, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire New York’s most successful Talk Personality appeared. Bob Grant replaced Jay Severin in afternoon drive on the WOR Radio Network’s flagship station, WOR. Two weeks later, Bob was added to the WOR Radio Network lineup. Joey Reynolds, another legend in the radio business, also joined the WOR Radio Network lineup during this time period.
Since 1999, the WOR Radio Network has added weekday and weekend programming and short form features as a vital service to our affiliates who needed World Class Talk to match the quality of the Network’s weekday schedule. A few of the recent additions (2003), include Jim Cramer's RealMoney, which offers up-to-date Wall Street advice and information from a well-known Wall Street professional, and the ever satirical Lionel. In addition, lifestyle shows including gardening expert, Ralph Snodsmith; consumer spokesperson, Phil Lempert; automotive guru, Ron Ananian; nationally recognized pet authority, Warren Eckstein; travel aficionado, Valarie Delia; and alternative medical expert, Dr. Ronald Hoffman, are now mainstays to the ever-growing Network lineup.
Today, the WOR Radio Network serves more than 380 stations in the United States and Canada,
feeding original programming 23 hours a day on 2 satellite channels, WOR1 and WOR2. The WOR Radio Network utilizes the Starguide GE 8 delivery system via ABC Satellite services from its flagship station in New York City, WOR-AM Radio 710.
